Emotional Audience Gives Multiple Ovations

ATLANTA—An emotional, joyful audience sent waves of applause to the artists as Shen Yun Performing Arts visited Atlanta. Business people, artists, educators, and children flocked to the show. Multiple families with Chinese girls in traditional Chinese dress attended. The mood was festive. Every show was full, and every performance received a standing ovation. The audience called out, whistled, and gasped at what they saw and heard.
Many dignitaries welcomed the visit. Georgia's two Senators, Saxby Chambliss and Johnny Isakson, welcomed the New York-based Shen Yun. Four local mayors supported the company with proclamations and welcome letters.
Some asked what other chances they might have to see it. In the Southeast, it will visit Memphis, Tennessee, and Little Rock, Arkansas, next week.
A Georgia soldier drove more than 200 miles to see the performance for a second time. She has a theatrical background and said a local Honors Thespian group of students came as well. They plan to stage the story of Mulan.
When Shen Yun was still called the Chinese New Year Spectacular, it had its debut performance in Atlanta in 2006. The company gave one show at the Atlanta Civic Center in midtown Atlanta. The next year, it gave two shows at the elegant and lavish Cobb Energy Performing Arts Center. This year four performances filled the Centre.
Shen Yun Performing Arts New York Company will perform next in Washington, D.C. from Jan. 19-24 and the Shen Yun Performing Arts Touring Company will perform in Memphis, TN on Jan. 19 and in Little Rock, AR on Jan. 20.
